SRI LANKA

Sri Lanka appeals to all the seasons. This Island, washed by the warm blue waters of the Indian Ocean, promises a variety of riches as a holiday destination.

The name changes; the land remains the same. The Greeks and the Romans knew this land as Taprobane; to the Arabs of the Sindbad age, she was Serendib, where happy and unexpected discoveries became the modern word “Serendipity”. From Portugese Ceylao, through Dutch Zeilan, to the British Ceylon...to Sri Lanka, the new name for what it is always the resplendent land.

The ancient land of the legend, where arts and culture flourished and in forgotten cities and wonders created in caves, on rocks faces and on top of mountains.

A rich and ancient land, where lost temples and palaces are now reclaimed from the jungle; cities such as Polonnaruwa, the medieval capital of Sri Lanka; the scared city of Anuradhapura founded in the 5 th century BC; Mihintale, the mountain monastery where Buddhism was introduced to the Island in 247 BC; and the enforcing rock fortress, Sigiriya built in the 5 th century AD, where with its celebrated frescoes.

There are spectacular steep, winding roads to misty hill stations with breath taking views of distant mountains and temples between cascading water falls and lush tea plantations.

Kandy , the last capital of the Sinhala kings is a living record of a magnificent past. Dominating Kandy is the Dalada Maligawa – the Temple of the sacred tooth relic – thrown on the edge of the Kandy lake.

To date, the Island is a flourishing modern democracy with a strong commercial center established in Colombo (the Island's largest and most prestigious city), an abundance of five star hotels, an International airport, a modern transport and communication systems and strategically located sea port.

With so many places to go and things to see, we must mention that Sri Lanka is also a great to be still: simply sip coconut juice as you rest on the endless miles of perfect golden sand and beaches fringed by coconut palms. Whatever you are looking for, you will find a touch of paradise in Sri Lanka
